With temperatures in the 60s, we experienced September-like weather a week after Halloween. Edgar had a busy day -- dance class (a wonderful birthday gift from Nana and Opa), backyard soccer, friend Sam's birthday party, and a marshmallow-roasting fire. (Get well, Julia! Let's hope your cold is the last of the year).

We celebrated Edgar's birthday today with a party for him and his friends. (We thought we'd better wait until the Saturday Halloween excitement was over, so we held it this afternoon). Here's a few shots of all the fun.

Halloween is just hours away now. We're all going to be extra-terrestrials. Here's Edgar's dress rehearsal.
Today is Edgar's actual birthday. We'd already had some celebrations in advance, and we look forward to more upcoming. But tonight, we had a tasty spaghetti dinner, scrumptious strawberry cake (both made by Julia), and lots of cards and gifts.

Edgar and Ollie!
Normally we go to Aamodt's Apple Orchard every year around this time. We set out on our traditional journey today, but this time when we passed the giant pumpkin wonderland display on Highway 36, we decided to give it a try. Turned out to be loads of fun -- silly string wars, panning for gems, and all kinds of surprises. We got a pumpkin and two squash(es?), too.
It's October 12. Not December 12. Not even November 12. And there's all kinds of snow on the ground -- as well as on the rooftops, cars, etc.
Looking at this scene from this morning's dog park romp, you'll notice that the giant broccoli there is actually a grove of trees that have not only not lost their leaves yet, but their leaves are still green!
Freaky.

After days of clouds and rain we were stunned to see everything lit up again. And Edgar got to play with his friend Ollie after school!
Imagining a sunny day with fall colors, in reality we got very little of either. It was cloudy all day and just too early to see more than an occasional colorful maple. But we did have a fun time driving down to Red Wing, Minnesota -- home of Red Wing shoes and pottery. We'll try again in another week or two.
Every Tuesday night -- unless something unusual comes up -- we go to Grammy's for dinner and a show (American Idol when in season). This week, Edgar sported a major cowlick (and attitude to match). We caught a more respectful moment as well, as Edgar and Grammy walked from the community dining room back to her place.
