Still Water and Snow

The water was so still in the town of Stillwater, MN today, that we could barely distinguish the historic lift bridge from its reflection (The image below is flipped just for fun).

We also found some snow at a nearby lake, which happened to have an indoor ice arena on one of its shores. (The arena had just dumped a load of Zamboni contents on the beach).

   

After School with Maya

Edgar's school-mate and longtime friend, Maya (they met in Guatemala when they were mere months old), came over after school the other day. 

We hung out in the back yard until it got dark, then retired to the house for a series of games, including Marble Stairs -- a game invented by Edgar's mom and her sisters when they were kids, in which one kid (wearing a helmet) waits at the bottom of the stairs for loads of marbles -- or balls -- to be dropped by the kid at the top of the stairs.

    

Fishy

Edgar's at the age where he loves fish and other creatures of the sea and lake. Here he's having a tentatively fun time as sharks swim overhead.

A First!

Edgar now towers over the 42" mark (by a few centimeters), so today he rode the Swiper ride all alone for the first...time...ever!

Boys Night Out

With Julia -- Edgar's mom -- out with her friends, Edgar and his dad made a late night visit to Edinborough Park with Joe and Emmett. Here's Edgar mastering one of the park's curious round vehicles.

   

Violet's Birthday Party

Edgar's classmate Violet had a birthday party on Saturday. A wild time was had by all. (If you're having trouble spotting Edgar, he's in the red plaid shirt).

November?

With temperatures in the 60s, we experienced September-like weather a week after Halloween. Edgar had a busy day -- dance class (a wonderful birthday gift from Nana and Opa), backyard soccer, friend Sam's birthday party, and a marshmallow-roasting fire. (Get well, Julia! Let's hope your cold is the last of the year).

Party!

We celebrated Edgar's birthday today with a party for him and his friends. (We thought we'd better wait until the Saturday Halloween excitement was over, so we held it this afternoon). Here's a few shots of all the fun.

Countdown to Eccch-stasy

Halloween is just hours away now. We're all going to be extra-terrestrials. Here's Edgar's dress rehearsal.

Today is Edgar's actual birthday. We'd already had some celebrations in advance, and we look forward to more upcoming. But tonight, we had a tasty spaghetti dinner, scrumptious strawberry cake (both made by Julia), and lots of cards and gifts.

Happy Birthday, Gabe!

Julia and Edgar met Gabe and his mom at a park a few years ago. The boys were born just a few days apart. While we don't live all that close to each other, we do manage to get together every so often. Last Saturday, we helped Gabe celebrate his birthday at a gymnastics center.
